On Applesauce

Applesauce is a wonderful food. In fact, apples in general are terrific. I love them. When my mother was pregnant with me, something made it so that she couldn't eat raw apples anymore. It was most likely that no two people in the same family/body (odd) could like them that much at the same time. So I won. Sorry Mom.

Unfortunately, I did not win tonight. A few days ago, I opened a jar of applesauce. I ate some of it. As I was in the middle of my all work no sleep (except at inappropriate times of the day) week, I forgot to put the applesauce in the refrigerator.

Tonight I got hungry, as most people do. I am moving across the country in a few short weeks and I have been trying my very hardest not to buy more food. I spotted the jar of applesauce, I downed a big glug. It was delicious, and a little bit different tasting than usual. I didn't care. It was applesauce, and I was hungry. I thought it was a good solution to my problems. My insides beg to differ.

Never have I regretted eating applesauce so much in my life. Let's just say these aren't hunger pains that I am feeling. Quite the opposite.

The moral of this story: Always refrigerate your applesauce, and keep air freshener handy.

Cat Lady

I'm not a cat lady. Promise. I talk to people. I do stuff, sometimes. Besides you would like your cat too if she:
  • liked Taco Bell as much as you do
  • napped with you
  • slept in your armpit
  • and her favorite toy was a straw.
  • or if she was this cute.
Realizing that some of my dear loving family members think that I may have hermitized myself, I will confess, it has happened a little bit. But that's just because I have been so swamped with art work. I am buried in art assignments, not cat hair. REALLY!

And here is something I have been meaning to say:

I promise to get married someday. I promise to not avoid men (after this summer). I promise to have as much fun as I can. I promise to give my parents grandchildren. I promise to not be the Cat Lady of the family. We don't need any of those. We have enough special quirks. Anyway, I still like guys, I still shower, I still wear SOME makeup. I even did my hair today.

Again.

I promise to get married some day.

Love,
Ruthie K.

Road Trippin'

My life would not be complete without change. And I'm not talkin' I finally did my eyebrows this month." I mean moving across the country change. Granted, this time I am moving back to something I know and love, but, I have never moved via ROAD TRIP! Exciting!

One of my dear sister
-in-laws, Breezi the Great, is coming out here in a few weeks to drive with me! It's going to be so much stinking fun! And stinking is just an expression, we won't actually stink too badly.
Louise might though. She has been known to toot... She will be given a mild sedative that I will obtain gratefully from my veterinarian, who is coincidentally the nicest vet I have ever met.

ANYWAY, adventures and pictures and stories will be had, taken, and told! Get excited!

My New Inspiration

The other day in my photography class we watched a documentary called the September Issue. For those of you who don't know, this documents the process of publishing the September 2007 issue of Vogue. I sat there, finally feeling inspired by something, even if it was 4 years old, and a discussion started. It was more of a string of commentary. You see, a lot of my classmates think fashion is stupid, ridiculous, or, unnecessary. Now, you may not be able to tell because of my frazzled/ruffled appearance, but I care about fashion and how I look. I just run out of time to make myself look nice when it's 7:30 and I just rolled out of bed to feed my cat when I need to be at class by 8 am. It's rough. My hair has decided to be partly curly, part straight. A new development.

About this commentary, one segment in particular: An ad came on that ran about red lipstick. Someone, I can't remember who, but it was one of the guys, said loudly that that is one thing that guys don't like. And then another guy in my class chimes in about an article on what women think men like, but men hate. In that article it discussed red lipstick and short hair.
Contrary to their popular asinine belief, I have short hair not because I was thinking it would make all of the men fall madly in love with me, but because IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII liked it. I had long long hair. It was a pain. Pretty when I did it, sometimes even when I didn't do it. But I didn't want it anymore. I wasn't interested in dating. I was having fun. I was finding myself. And no, just because I have short hair doesn't mean that I like women. (Also a popular idea, especially with the creepy women at PetSmart...)

With the exception of my teacher, who was also thinking this commentary was great, the male participants in this "convo" are married or engaged. Good for them!

Also, I do know guys that like short hair. But it doesn't matter.

Women do not always dress to attract men (or women).

Personally, I dress for myself.

I cut my hair for myself.

I wear makeup because I love it.

I shower because it's nice to do.

I felt inspired then. That day, I left that class with a determination to change the world. To be fashionable once again. To be so wonderful that I won't be able to resist myself. I will make my mark on this world. And I am going to do it whether I have hair or not.

Just for fun, here are some pictures of me. One with long(ish) hair and the other with short hair.

Bruises

Every time I see a bruise I think of this song:

Bruises by Chairlift

Look at these pictures:

My friend Alex was kind enough to let me give her a big makeup bruise and take pictures of her. Unfortunately, I did make her late for a fun afternoon with her future Mother-in-law. Sorry pumpkin!
